According to a recent survey carried out for BBC Radio 5 Live, the number of people using alternative and complementary medicines has incredibly doubled over the past 6 years.

This particular poll of 1,200 people revealed that one in five Britons were now opting for such therapies. It also showed that they spent on average almost £15 a month.

The poll, which was conducted by ICM, also showed that 78% of those surveyed believe alternative or complementary health treatments will become increasingly popular.

The results showed that 21% have used a complementary medicine or therapy in the last year.

The survey revealed that men were less likely than women to turn to a therapist. Conversely, it showed that herbal medicine and acupuncture were used more by men than by women.

Most of the people questioned quoted the main reason for using alternative medicine was simply because it worked for them. Other reasons given included that it was relaxing and that it also helped prevent illness.

Statistically, one in ten people were referred to an alternative therapist by their doctor. An equal number referred themselves because they said they had lost faith in conventional medicine. Others said they consulted complementary practitioners because they were unable to obtain the treatment they needed on the NHS.

The poll also revealed that, unsurprisingly, the shift towards alternative therapies may be saving the NHS significant amounts of money.

According to the poll, the most popular therapies were:

Of those people who do use alternative medicines and therapies, 71% use one therapy, 12% use two, and 3% use four or more.

I say to everybody, that herbal medicine is yes a great way to resolve many problems (in the last year I could heal -not completly but with 1-from time to time regresses today- a very grave form of herpes).

But a week ago I, who knows everything about precautions to make, exagerated with a toxic plant and today, one week after, I have to take many medicines to remain alive after this. The doctor could not belive his eyes when he saw what I made with me.

I think, we have EVER say about danger of unresponsable use of herbs.
Most persons take them without this thoughts.
