Too Many Late Nights?
Posted by tel under UncategorizedIt probably comes as no surprise that researchers are now telling us that an incredible 70% of adults don’t get a full 8 hours sleep every night. Lack of sleep does more harm than we may think to our health. Following on from our post Alternative Cures Focus on Health #1, we can look at some alternative cures style ways of tipping the balance back in our favour.
If you miss one hour’s sleep:
You may believe that a double shot of espresso will compensate, but sadly, your body and mind will suffer the ill effects. You’ll be less creative, more distracted and less able to concentrate, putting you at risk of having accidents.
To redress the balance:
By inhaling a revitalising oil such as peppermint, you’ll clear your mind and increase your productivity levels.
If you miss two hour’s sleep:
Your coordination, judgement and reflexes as well as your reaction times will all suffer. Believe it or not, an Australian study revealed that having less than six hours sleep a night can be as hazardous as being drunk!
To redress the balance:
Eat porridge mixed with an assortment of seeds for breakfast. The low GI count means it will release energy slowly which will keep you alert for longer.
If you miss three hour’s sleep:
Your blood pressure will increase dramatically, placing you at double the risk of heart failure as a study conducted by Warwick Medical School.
To redress the balance:
A brisk walk around the block is good for helping you to cut your stress levels and bring your blood pressure down to normal.
The best alternative cures of all?
Go to bed earlier if you can and don’t preclude that with big meals just beforehand, or any strenuous exercise either. Better to switch off the TV well before going to bed and reading for half an hour or so - it is a much better way to relax and you’ll find that you drop off to sleep faster too!

I remember I had about 18 years. I was sooo busy with my friends to do all sorts of stupidities that we had not time to sleep for 6 days… More than 6 never. Try to make me renounce on my sleep hours today. You will not survive till tomorrow. :)))
And what to do if I don’t like pepermint and porridge?

Hi Liudmila,
I’m another one who really suffers when I don’t get enough sleep. Problem is, that happens a lot and I spend many days in a state of half consciousness - not really with it! Usually an afternoon siesta sorts that out, but just lately I’ve been working so hard that the siesta has had to be postponed - until bedtime! ha!

Wow, Nick thanks for the post.
This shows the alarming effects of not getting sleep.
Funny enough, a lot of my clients have some sleeping problems. If it’s a one off you’ll recover easily. If it’s chronical you’ll need some help as your wellbeing will suffer.
