Natural Remedies

Natural remedies are the major alternative cures to the drugs, pills and potions that the medical profession prescribe for many of our day to day and more serious ailments but sometimes you have to look at both sides of the fence for the greenest grass. My last post here at Alternative Cures, which was ages ago and for which I apologise profusely, looked at natural cures for sore throats with a very happy ending!
Well, this time, I’m going to look at one of the natural remedies that has a potentially negative side and make a bit of an example of it. The natural remedy in this case is black cohosh which is used by many menopausal women as a way of alleviating the hot flushes that are associated with the hormone changes associated with the menopause.
Recent tests on lab mice (we don’t like to hear about animal testing, but sometimes it has its merits when done in the name of medicine) have shown that when given large doses of black cohosh it resulted in the development of cancer.
Ok, while tests on lab animals are not always accurate when transferred to humans, there is enough cause for concern to warrant further studies to see whether this product is safe or not. It does make you stop an think, especially if, like me, you are an advocate of natural cures wherever possible.
While we may say lots of derogatory things about modern medical science and the fact that the drugs industry seems to drive it more than a moral sense of wanting to really cure the world’s ills, it also cannot be denied that we generally live longer as a result – longer than at any time in history in fact.
Our ancestors that had only herbs, snake oil potions and other natural cures to fix their problems tended to die of them a lot more often than not. That said, we have the best of both worlds these days, as the savvy amongst us recognise that each has its own place in curing the sick and when the knowledge from both sides of that fence are combined, we have more alternatives than at any other time in our history for curing our ills.
Just look at all the many ways we can treat certain problems with a combination of natural and manufactured remedies today. Take acne home remedies as a case in point. We can deal with acne much better now than we could only 20 years ago because we now know that it needs a whole body approach to dealing with a number of problems, whereas in the past, strong medications were our only options.
This might have come across as a bit of a rant, but it’s not really. More like a kick up one’s own backside at this eye opener that this is another story with a happy ending in that we all have more to be grateful for than any of our ancestors, despite what we might think to the contrary!

Following on from my last post overviewing natural health supplements in Supplemental,I’m going to get back to the alternative cures and alternative health topics that this site is all about and give you a really nice one!
Well, after all, most people consider alternative cures to be nothing more than a load of hocus pocus, but here is a real alternative cure that you can pick up and hold, touch, feel and experience that is for real. And the best part is that the medical profession endorses it!
So what is this ground breaking alternative cure for a sore throat?
Well throw away those disgusting tasting lozenges, quit gargling with equally disgusting mixtures and grab yourself a bottle of Chardonet!
Many people are already aware of some of the natural cancer busting compounds found in red wine, namely resveratrol which is a powerful antioxidant that rids the body of dangerous free radicals and helps reduce the risk of cancer and heart disease. Well now there is evidence that some of these alternative health compounds found in wine can help to act as an alternative cure for a sore throat.
Its true and to back it up a report in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry claims that drinking a regular glass of red or white wine can act as a natural remedy and help to fight off a sore throat as well as warding off gum diseases and tooth decay!
Italian scientists have recently found that certain wine acids are found to be effective at fighting the streptococci bacteria that are responsible for causing gum disease as well as infections such as tonsillitis, laryngitis and even bronchitis.
This is exceedingly good news for all followers of a healthy natural lifestyle that also like the odd tipple of vino from time to time. Alternative health remedies and cures abound but not many of them are as welcome or enjoyable as this particular natural health cure in the form of a good red wine!
So raise your glass to your very good natural health!

Following my last post at What is Gout, where I looked at the painful condition of gout and what is available that can be done to remedy the situation somewhat, I now turn my attention to some of the natural or alternative cure supplements that are available.
Health supplements are nothing new and I don’t suppose I’m going to be breaking any new ground with this post, but the fact remains that health supplements can be highly beneficial to many people as a way of preventing illnesses and ill health in the future.
There are also the not so natural supplements that exist for conditions that make use of their benefits. One such problem that exists in many people is too high a level of carbohydrates in their system, usually the result of eating too many carbohydrate rich foods! Well, there exists Carb Blocker Supplements to actually prevent the body’s uptake of the excess carbs. Whether they are a good thing or not depends upon your lifestyle. If you eat well and exercise regularly, your won’t need them. However if you eat junk food and lead a sedentary lifestyle, they are one way to prevent too much damage by your own actions.
Another problem may people suffer from is stress. No surprises there and where those of us who follow the alternative lifestyle have natural methods of bringing stress under control such as meditation and self hypnosis, for those that don’t have the time for these there are Stress Control Supplements that will artificially calm your nerves and bring your levels of stress down. Again not ideal, but for people who lead such busy lifestyles that they simply don’t have time to slow down, these could be of great benefit.
Lastly, there is the age old problem of weight loss. This has become an epidemic of recent times with everyone seeming to be jumping through hoops in order to lose weight. Well, for the ones that prefer to ignore all the experts and even us alternative lifestyle advocates, there are Ephedrasil Weight Loss Supplements that come to the rescue to assist in a weight loss program. Of course you’ll have to visit the site in those links to see for yourself how effective any of them really are as they do not necessarily fit in with an alternative lifestyle where people do what they do through their own sense of what is right and wrong rather than what the so-called experts all tell us!
Well, that’s it for now. Keep up with the alternative lifestyle and you won’t be needing anything artificial to bolster up the old system!
